I take a multiple vitamin every day. I also drink three glasses of milk, a yogurt, two slices of whole wheat bread and a bowl of shredded wheat every day. I don't want to have to record these items to my Food Log day-after-day. Isn't there a better, faster, easier way?
Yes. Record these items once. Each of them will automatically be entered into your Favorites List. In your Favorites Manager, drag and drop these food items into the "Auto-Record" Tab. From this moment on, these items will be automatically recorded for you every time you start adding to a Food Log for a new day!
How often should I update my personal goals?
No need to worry about it... NutriBase automatically monitors your calorie intake, exercise, and weight loss (or gain) and automatically recalculates your nutrient requirements for you. It will offer to update your goals for you. You can accept or reject this recommendation.
Can I view all of the information for a single food item on the screen at one time?
Yes. Use your mouse cursor to point at any food item (or anywhere on a row of data), then click the View Button. The single-item view is a scrolling list box - use the vertical scroll bar to view all of the nutrient data.
Can I highlight a single food item so that I can follow its nutritional information more easily as I scroll horizontally through the data?
Yes. Just click in the space just to the left of the item's Food Name. This will highlight the entire line for you.
My doctor ordered me to consume fewer calories than NutriBase recommends for me based on my current life situation. Can I override the calorie requirement setting calculated by NutriBase?
Yes. Just edit the calories calculated for you by NutriBase by clicking your mouse cursor inside the edit box that indicates your calorie calculation and typing in your new value.
I calculate % Calories from Fat by using the "4-4-9 method." Is this the same way NutriBase calculates calories?
Yes and No. USDA calorie ratios were calculated using the conversion factors provided by the USDA. For USDA-provided "formulations" (multi-ingredient foods), which did not include conversion factors, values were calculated using the straight 4-4-9 method. And for NutriBase brand name food items, calorie ratios were derived by using CyberSoft's compensated 4-4-9 method.
When I am viewing the nutrient data, is it possible for me to quickly jump to a particular food name or brand name?
Yes. Click on the Jump Button. The Jump option provides a listing of every unique food name (or unique brand name) in the food categories you have selected. Just click on the food or brand name you are interested in. NutriBase will immediately "jump" to the first occurrence of this food item.
After I create a recipe, can I use it as an ingredient in another recipe?
Yes. When you are creating a recipe, click on the Recipe Tab of the Search screen. Locate the recipe you wish to include (i.e., low-sodium, low-fat soup stock), then click to add it to your new recipe. This ability can save you a lot of time.
Why would I ever want to rank a group of foods?
A ranking is a sorted list of food items. A sorted list is handy because the food items are listed in ascending or descending order based on the value for any nutrient in which you are interested. For instance, you might wish to rank all ready-to-serve breakfast cereals from high-to-low based on their fiber content. When you do this, the first cereal in your display contains the most fiber, the second cereal listed contains the second most fiber, etc. You can perform rankings on any food category and on any nutrient.
I am looking for all occurrences of food names containing "BRAN" anywhere in the food name. Can NutriBase do this?
Yes. Click on the Food Name Search Tab in the Search Screen, then type in the string "BRAN". Then click the Enter key. NutriBase will locate every occurrence of every food name that contains the string "BRAN" anywhere in any food name and display a "hit list" of categories that contain this string. Just click on the category of interest and view your search results in the Search Results screen.
How can view all foods of a particular brand name?
Yes. Click on the Brand Name Tab of the Search Screen. Type in the Brand name you wish to locate, then click the OK Button. This is good for looking at, say, "Lean Cuisine" or "Weight Watcher's frozen entrees.
I made a mistake in the food items I recorded yesterday for my intake. Is it too late to make any changes?
No. You can always go back to any day you recoreded it and edit it.
I just can't seem to view as much nutrient data on the screen as I would like. Isn't there something I can do to get more nutrient data onto the screen?
Yes. You can make your columns narrower and your rows thinner by resizing the columns of data. NutriBase will remember your new settings for you. You can increase your screen resolution. If you are using 640 x 480, try 800 x 600. If you are using 800 x 600, try using 1024 x 768, etc.
Can you show me which nutrients and variables are featured in the NutriBase EZ Edition?
Yes. Take a look at the NutriBase Nutrient Listing.
